This bustling desert city is the second largest in Rajasthan after Jaipur. It was founded by Rao Jodha, the leader of the Rathore clan, in 1459 AD. The mammoth, imposing fortress (Meherangarh) has a landscape dominating a rocky ridge with the eight gates leading out of fortress.

It was formerly the seat of a princely state of the same name, the capital of the kingdom known as Marwar. Jodhpur is a popular tourist destination, featuring many palaces, forts and temples, set in the stark landscape of the Thar Desert.

The city is known as the Sun City for the bright, sunny weather it enjoys all year. It is also referred to as the Blue City due to the blue-painted houses around the Mehrangarh Fort. Jodhpur lies near the geographic centre of Rajasthan state, which makes it a convenient base for travel in a region much frequented by tourists.

Jodhpur is city of cultural heritage, monuments, colorful people & places. People of this area are very friendly cooperative and obedient to the task although the annual rainfall is very low and every third year they face famine and drought still people are cheerful and happy. Naturally, they are hardy and healthy. The people of Jodhpur are extra ordinary famous for their hospitality. If there is slight rainfall being a sandy land good crops of millet (Bajra), lentil and oil seeds mainly harvested.


Blue consider as a holy colour it used to allow to only Brahmin or Brahmin was the only community which was allowed to paint their house Blue. Since last 90 years colour blue has been adopted as a native domestic pat of Jodhpur households. It discovered blue as a cold color it keeps houses cool and as well as it is anti mosquitoes so it allows to everyone now. They would paint there houses once in a year every October before the Diwali festival or after Monsoon.
